Fascia Release Bodywork
Fascia is one of the least known yet most crucial parts of the body. Although it connects every part of the body, fascia was largely overlooked in research until recently. Often described as connective tissue, it consists of various densities and formations and can be categorized into three main types: superficial, deep, and cutaneous fascia, all of which are found in many areas of the body.
Fascia plays a vital role in connecting, separating, protecting, and facilitating fluid movement within the body. One of its most important functions is its ability to connect and communicate throughout the body. Healthy fascia allows different parts of the body to move smoothly and work in harmony, while unhealthy fascia can lead to stiffness, pain, and a lack of fluidity.
Several types of bodywork can promote the health of fascia. For instance, Vibration Human Technique (VHT) is a non-invasive, non-diagnostic form of bodywork that gently releases built-up tension, injuries, or blockages in specific areas of the body. This technique works with soft tissue and the body’s fascia. The equine equivalent is called Equine Touch, which is similar to the Bowen Technique used on humans. This modality stimulates specific parts of the body, helping to alleviate muscle injuries, increase circulation, and activate the body’s inherent ability to heal.
Equine Touch, along with its sister practices Canine Touch and Vibration Human Technique (VHT), offers gentle bodywork systems that focus on the fascia to help the body realign from within. These techniques promote a higher degree of homeostasis (balance) by utilizing a series of movements targeted at the muscles, joints, soft tissues, and fascia. This process aids in releasing built-up stagnant energy and stimulates clear, flowing “ki,” allowing the body to connect on energetic, cellular, and physical levels. By encouraging the fascia to realign, these methods enable the body to regain enhanced fluidity.
